When is the Best Time to Sail in the San Blas Islands

Months December to late April attract most of the crowds because of the dry weather, May- August is quieter and weather is still very nice. September might bring rain depending on the year.

Since Panama and the autonomous region of the San Blas islands is not in the way of Caribbean hurricanes and there is no bad time to sail, it really depends on what you are looking for.

December through April is our High season and some anchorages can be a bit busy. This is a good time to come if you like a bit more action and prefer the dry weather with very low rain and constant moderate trade winds.

Throughout this period, winds average 10-20 knots, sometimes higher with a front passing through.

From May to August the season slow down a bit and you could say that San Blas will be almost entirely for yourself with peaceful anchorages and perfect snorkeling due to the low wind and rolling.

If you are looking to be alone in Paradise, with the pristine beach to yourself, this is the time to come.

The weather is a little warmer during the central months and this is why we recommend renting a catamaran with air conditioning.

We are not closed September- October like other sailing destinations such as the BVIs, Antigua, the Grenadines, etc. and although many people are concerned about chartering during this time, there's a very low chance of it affecting your vacation.

If an event of heavy rain or adverse weather occurs in any of the months and getting to San Blas is not possible, you will be refunded 100% of your charter. Check out our FAQs for more info
